RWM Brasil 2013: i2iÂ's first event in Brazil acclaimed as a resounding success

i2i Events Group is enjoying the success of its first event in Brazil.  RWM Brasil (Resource Efficiency and Waste Management Solutions) was held for the first time from 1 – 2 October 2013 at the Trans American Expo Center in Sao Paulo and was organised in partnership with ABRELPE (Associação Brasileira de Empresas de Limpeza Pública e Resíduos Especiais).

Welcoming over 2,000 visitors and 70 exhibitors including household names such as JCB, Kawasaki, Johnston Sweepers, Hitachi and Taylor Bins, RWM Brasil brought together key companies and industry experts who are leading the solid waste management agenda in Brazil. Some 290 delegates also attended ABRELPE's International Conference on Solid Waste Management and were given the opportunity to hear from a number of key speakers including representatives from the Ministry of Environment of Brazil, the Sao Paulo State Government and the Rt Hon Richard Benyon MP, Minister for Natural Environment and Fisheries, Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), UK.

This all comes at a crucial time for the industry in Brazil, as new legislation regarding the treatment of solid waste was introduced in 2010 meaning that Brazil's 5,565 municipalities will be making huge capital investment in upgrading equipment and developing project management solutions over the coming years.

Gordon Payne, International Director, i2i Events Group, comments “We are delighted with the successful first edition of RWM Brasil.  With over 45 years' experience running RWM in the UK, i2i was able to bring its expertise  to one of the industry's most exciting new markets and create an event where buyers and sellers were able to come together, address the key issues, get introduced to new technologies and start to bridge the knowledge gap.â€'

Carlos Silva Filho, Executive Director, ABRELPE, says “The successful launch of RWM Brasil is very timely and by working with i2i Events Group, we are building a UK-Brazil partnership to promote best practice and effective waste management solutions for the long term benefit of the industry.â€'

RWM Brasil 2014 will take place from 9 – 10 September.  It will be held in parallel with the ISWA (International Solid Waste Association) World Congress on Solid Waste and the Global Forum on Solid Waste Management, sponsored annually by the IPLA (International Partnership for Expanding Waste Management Services for Local Authorities), a programme maintained by the UNCSD (United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development).
