AEO - Association of event organisers

The Ops Hub

Many event professionals agree that the ops function is the go to function for advice, support and guidance on how an event should and shouldn't be managed and what can and cannot take place at the event. That is why the AEO Ops Working Group has launched this Ops Hub to provide best in class information to support ops professionals with resources that will help them help others.

If you think there is any other information that you would find useful please let us know and we will add it to the agenda of the Ops Working group.

This section will include a suite of resources developed by the Cross Association Security Sub Group to support event security. All of these resources will be available to AEO members working in the ops function to raise the importance of security with customers, colleagues, contractors and other stakeholders.

We are proud to have worked collaboratively across all the associations to have built a suite of resources to aid operations teams for their best practice when organising an event. The resources will be added to as they become available.

In addition to our dedicated safe working from height resources which are detailed below,  this section will include information about general health and safety. We have started by providing some safety posters for use on site during build-up and break-down. If you have any other needs please let us know and we will add it to the agenda for the Ops Working Group.

As mentioned, there is also a dedicated website for the Stop the Drop initiative where all of the resources can be downloaded for use in promoting safe working at height practices during build up and breakdown.

These resources are available for the entire industry to use and are already being adopted by organisers, suppliers and venues so please feel free to use them at your events. If you would like to pledge your support please contact the team and let us know.

The Stop the Drop initiative was conceived via the Ops Working Group in response to concerns from HSE regarding falls from height. The resources include:

  • Working at Height posters
  • Email signatures
  • Guides
  • Training videos
  • Risk Assessments

Visit the Stop the Drop website to view and download the resources.

International Guidance

To support the work that the International Operations, Health, Safety and Security Group (IOHSS) are conducting, the Ops Hub now includes resources that will help teams overseas.

The group has collaborated to create documents, assessments and checklists that can be downloaded and used for the benefit of AEO members, aiding you on site.

This resource will continue to evolve based on the outputs from the IOHSS group – but all members are welcome to feedback on any gaps or additional support that you may need.

In addition to this, the group endorses the gGuide as a useful tool to offer guidance on Health and Safety globally, and AEO sits on the committee that maintains this.

A link to the gGuide can be found here:

Fire Safety Toolbox

Part of the IOHSS Group’s strategy is to establish best practice guidelines that can be implemented globally by organisers and venues.

The following “toolbox” has been compiled to support teams understand what to look out for in relation to fire safety in venues overseas.

The aim is to get as many organisers using it as possible to generate consistencies in approach, and therefore set some best practice standards.

If you feel that you would like some more support, please give a member of the AEO team a shout and put your suggestions forward by emailing and

A venue piece, looking at how to communicate effectively and set standards universally is in the process of being created and will be added in due course.
