Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announces major energy industry event – EGYPS 2017

01 Mar 2016

Engineer Tarek El Molla, Egypt's Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources today launched EGYPS - the Egypt Petroleum Show – set to be the biggest industry event ever seen in North Africa.

To be held from February 14-16 February 2017, at the CICEC, Cairo, Egypt, the exhibition and conference will host more than 400 exhibiting companies, 25+ technical and strategic conference sessions and in excess of 10,000 visitors.

His Excellency Tarek El Molla, announced the launch to a gathering of Ministry dignitaries and officials and petroleum sector leaders together with international organiser dmg events and local partner ACG- ITF.

He said: “The new Egypt, which is working on turning its citizens dreams and aspirations into reality, welcomes and actively supports the convening of this Show. It reflects Egypt's strong, valuable position as an active country in this industry. Egypt's petroleum sector, with the guidance of a dedicated executive committee of industry experts is working to achieve maximum possible use of the event through reviewing and demonstrating research, exploration and production, and investment opportunities.

“By attending the conference sessions, delegates will gain a greater understanding of the current exploration activities in deep offshore Egyptian waters and the new geological layers, as well as opportunities in refining, marketing and the developing petrochemical sector.â€'

It is anticipated that Egypt will invest more than US$14.5 billion into its downstream refining and petrochemical sector in the next five years. Current infrastructure project investments for receiving, transfer, and trading of petroleum products in Egypt stand at EGP8.8 billion.

The Minister clarified that Egypt, which is currently building its economy and restoring its trajectory on strong foundations, aims to become a regional hub for energy, “by exploiting its position among producers and consumers, along with achieving optimal economic exploitation thanks to the availability of all the necessary qualifications to achieve its target.â€'

“The Egyptian petroleum sector has ambitious plans to jump-start its oil industry, taking it to new horizons. We are investing heavily in the sector, and have successfully launched international bids and concluded new petroleum agreements, the cornerstone of petroleum activities,â€' said the Minister.

HE El Molla said Egypt's developmental goals are supported by the will of its people, which has the awareness and understanding to contribute to achieving them. The Minister underlined that the nation's oil sector has real historic partnerships spanning more than 100 years with international oil companies.

Egyptian petroleum companies enjoy a variety of operations abroad, and have achieved honourable success in the Arab world, Africa and internationally, in fields such as petroleum engineering, contracting and maintenance, to name a few.

“This sector is characterised by its history, expertise, good reputation, discipline, highly qualified workforce and diverse experiences gained by its cooperation with various petroleum schools, represented by international companies operating in Egypt,â€' he added.

The Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS 2017), is an opportunity to learn about new techniques and to enrich the dialogue, exchange of ideas, knowledge and expertise in this vital area, especially given that specialised research and scientific studies will be under discussion.

The event offers the opportunity for graduates through to recently qualified young engineers, geologists and technicians to develop their skills and learn the latest state-of-the-art research and techniques thanks to the EGYPS Graduate Programme.

EGYPS Women In Industry programme will celebrate the growing role of women within the North African oil and gas sector. This will include dedicated conference sessions regarding women in upstream, midstream and downstream strategic and technical positions, and the opportunities that lay ahead.

Christopher Hudson, President of dmg events, Energy Division, organiser of the conference and exhibition, said: “EGYPS 2017 is the first step in establishing the leading annual platform in North Africa for the oil and gas sector; especially Egypt. With the active support and participation of our local partner ACG-ITF, we are in agreement that choosing Egypt reflects the faith international partners have in its investment climate and its potential for significant economic growth in the near future.â€'

“Egypt is clearly a growing market with huge opportunities, and EGYPS presents the first opportunity for local, regional and international players to come together and create a blueprint for the future energy security of Egypt. This inaugural Show will provide an opportunity for global buyers and sellers to display their products and services on the exhibition floor, and to establish alliances and partnerships. The conference represents an unparalleled opportunity for the global oil and gas industry to explore the opportunities and challenges of the exciting North African market,â€' he said.

Egypt has recently concluded agreements and partnerships with major international oil and gas companies, in spite of the challenges and instability in world oil markets.

The recent discovery of the supergiant Al Zohr natural gas field offshore Egypt represents an important shift in the history of Egypt's energy industry, and allows the potential for greater security of supply of natural gas.

EGYPS 2017 is the latest expansion in dmg events' Energy Division conference and exhibition portfolio, which includes some of the world's largest and most important events, including the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), Gastech in Japan, and the Global Petroleum Show (GPS) in Canada.
