The Opportunity:

There is the opportunity for a Junior Researcher to join Clarion Defence & Security, who are a leading global defence conference and exhibition organiser. The individual will be working across the portfolio focusing on our leading conferences and exhibitions.

The individual will be researching, coordinating and eventually delivering high quality conference programs that complement and drive attendance across both established conference programs and new topics.

Reporting to the Head of Content, the role will enable the successful candidate to:

  • Fully research and report on market developments
  • Act as project manager for assigned conference programmes
  • Take responsibility for executing the plan on time and on budget
  • Support the VIP Delegate team in making and maintaining contacts with top industry leaders

This role would be ideal for a recent graduate who is looking to enter event research and production, with the potential to grow the role into a full Conference Producer position.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate with a research-based degree, interested in starting a career in conference production. This position will begin as a junior role, supporting the existing production team, with the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to become a full Conference Producer and take on a more senior role in the long term.

Key Responsibilities:

Market Research

  • Researching competitor events and identifying their strengths and weaknesses
  • Researching geopolitical and commercial activity within the relevant markets and compiling the information into easily accessible reports for the Sales and Marketing teams
  • Researching current post-holders and industry contract information in relevant market positions and regions
  • Developing an understanding of the thought leaders shaping the future of the industry

Content Production

  • Identifying speakers and industry experts for comment on our events
  • Working with key external stakeholders to produce a number of topical and commercially viable conference programmes throughout the year
  • Working with marketing to produce content pieces to be used for newsletters and web based promotions
  • Maintaining copy resources keeping in mind the many areas it will be utilised for general event promotion, with the aim of enabling others to recycle copy effectively
  • Writing copy for email marketing and event websites
  • Keeping event websites updated with the latest programme developments

Onsite Management

  • Assuming the role of conference project manager onsite
  • Liaising with AV technicians to ensure programs run smoothly
  • Checking room set ups and ensuring they are prepared appropriately for the conference program and audience attending
  • Ensuring delegates and speakers are informed of conference developments and timings regularly, through your conference Chair and onsite PA system
  • Welcoming Keynotes, Chairs and Speakers to the event
  • Maintaining an on-going dialogue onsite with your Chair to support them in the running of the conference program
  • Ensuring all speakers attend their sessions in a timely fashion, and are in the room during the session prior to their event

Knowledge, skills and behaviours:

  • Educated to degree level – ideally in an analytical or research-focused subject
  • Excellent research skills
  • Excellent written skills to produce high quality copy and reports
  • Excellent communicator, sensitive to protocols appropriate to their audience
  • The ability to rapidly develop competent knowledge of diverse and technical topics
  • Creative and resourceful
  • Have the ability to break down complex concepts, make logical comparisons and identify underlying patterns and connections.
  • Be engaging, professional and have a diplomatic manner
  • Understand and be comfortable with the importance of operating within a team
