The Opportunity:

Security & Counter Terror Expo is Clarion’s flagship brand in the high level security market, bringing together a diverse collection of exhibitors showcasing leading edge technologies ranging from counter-drone technologies, police and special forces equipment, emergency medicine and facial recognition-based CCTV solutions through to building design and physical perimeter security devices to meet police, military and private sector buyers. The event also includes a very significant conference element, and is supported by a huge number of groups, associations, media partners and industry stakeholders from across the security community.

The role of SCTX & Ambition Event Director is responsible for owning and developing these key relationships, as well as managing and coordinating all aspects of the delivery and development of the event including controlling and forecasting the event’s P&L

The successful candidate will be an established Event Director or Event Manager looking for their next challenge, and will be eager to take on a role where they can become the “face” of SCTX and Ambition across the full spectrum of a diverse and extensive range of senior public and private sector stakeholders and customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership
  • Communicates a clear strategic business vision and plan for the event
  • Sets example of desired standards in communications and actions
  • Demonstrates clear and effective communication of ideas, processes and goals
  • Create an environment that actively enables and motivates individuals to execute the business plan
  • Manages effectively through delegation, empowerment and accountability of management team members

Business Management

  • Manage the event budget and financial plan to deliver on strategic goals
  • Identify and implement initiatives to increase customer satisfaction
  • Manage operations functions to ensuring presentation of show is commensurate with market needs
  • Identify and exploit additional revenue opportunities
  • Manage staff consistently and completes timely appraisals
  • Project Management of all key event activities


  • Develop relationships with key market players and stakeholders
  • To foster positive and professional relationships with key associations, media and partners

Strategy & Brand Development

  • Understand market dynamics and trends, and their potential impact on event development.
  • Ensure the event meet evolving market needs, including launching add-on days and events to capitalise on new opportunities
  • Actively work to identify and to develop the event product mix and market relevance
  • Seeks to identify new business development opportunities – target acquisitions, launches, partnerships, alliances, joint ventures to build the longer term strategic plan for the group

Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors:

  • Proven experience in directing conferences/exhibitions
  • Demonstrable leadership skills, with strategy and planning experience
  • Resilience and strategic vision
  • A fluent and excellent communicator at all levels; confident decision-maker
  • Outstanding presentation and negotiation skills
  • Excellent people management and motivational skills
  • Good financial controller able to provide consistent accurate forecasting through Salesforce where required
  • Experience of creating commercial strategy using Salesforce insights
  • Knowledge of Salesforce best practice sales behaviors for all direct and indirect reports
