The Facts 2011

The industry’s most comprehensive annual survey, The Facts 2011, published by FaceTime and produced by Vivid Interface was released on 30 March 2011.

The Facts 2011 is the broadest dataset reporting on trade show and consumer event markets in the UK. The report contains like-for-like comparisons and business sector analysis and offers extensive data from 650 events held in the UK during 2010.

Top line figures:

• UK trade events have almost arrested their annual decline, with a decline of 1.4 per cent in 2010 compared to 8.2 per cent in 2009.
• Trade events that provided figures on gross hall space booked at exhibition venues showed that on average, organisers booked 5.8 per cent less space in 2010 than in 2009, compared to 8.5 per cent less space the previous year.
• However, net hall space booked at trade events showed an increase of 7.1 per cent in 2010, an indication of more economic use of hall space.
• The consumer sector fared slightly worse with a decline in attendance stretching to 3.6 per cent from 2.9 per cent in 2009. However, gross hall space booked at consumer events did improve, reducing its decline from 4.2 per cent to 1.5 per cent.
• The average number of exhibiting companies at trade shows increased two per cent year-on-year, compared to consumer shows which declined by 0.7 per cent.
