UBM in Emerging Markets*
- UBM’s long term strategy has been to invest in developing its business in fast-growing Emerging Markets, particularly its tradeshow business.

- This strategy has ensured Emerging Markets now contribute over a quarter of UBM’s total profits (28.6% of EBITA), up 20.6% on 2009. Emerging Markets revenues grew 17.6% in 2010 to contribute 18.7% of UBM’s overall revenues (2009: 16.7%). UBM’s revenues from Emerging Markets have grown by 110% since 2005.

UBM Events in Emerging Markets*
- In 2010 UBM hosted over 300 events including 198 tradeshows, 78 conferences and 23 awards in 21 different countries, generating £310m in revenue and total adjusted operating profit of £93.5m, more than 50% of UBM’s overall profit.

- Events hosted in Emerging Markets contributed £116.0m or 40.0% of UBM’s events revenues, up 33.0% on 2009. This growth was largely driven by acquisitions, most notably Sign China and Children-Baby-Maternity-Expo (Shanghai), new launches and good growth in our largest events.

- UBM signed an agreement to acquire a 65% interest in Rotaforte, Turkey’s largest jewellery event organiser. This adds to UBM’s jewellery event portfolio which includes the largest jewellery show in the world, the Hong Kong Jewellery Show, each September

- UBM also acquired the Navalshore and Concrete Show South America tradeshows in Brazil

- In 2010 UBM launched six new exhibitions in India, two in China, one in Brazil and one in the Middle East. Three of these events were geo-clones – versions of existing events which are hosted elsewhere in the world – in China, India and Abu Dhabi. UBM also ran its first ever events in the year in Vietnam and Indonesia.

* Emerging Markets are defined as non-G10 countries but UBM’s activities are primarily in China, India and Brazil but UB also has operations in Thailand Singapore, Indonesia Malaysia, Philippines, Mexico and the UAE.
