Food & Drink trade shows 2010 - A huge success

A record number of visitors travelled to this year’s food & drink trade shows, which took place at the Birmingham NEC in March. The event comprised eight shows: Baking Industry Exhibition, Foodex, Café+@CRS, Convenience Retailing Show (CRS), Food & Drink Expo, Food & Drink Logistics, International Forecourt & Fuel Equipment (IFFE) Show and Off Licence Show.

Visitors were fulsome in their praise:

- Geoff Coleman, Cornfield Bakery, Oxford, who was at BIE said “It’s great having all the exhibitions side by side. I came looking for bakery equipment but have seen so much more.”

- Graeme Cox of Oakland Stores in Cardiff said: “I’ve been coming to CRS for years; it’s always worth a visit. You don’t get reps coming to your shop like you used to so CRS is great for catching up with what the suppliers are doing.”

- Ray D’Arcy, Best Western Centurion Hotel, Bath a visitor at Food & Drink Expo said, “The show’s been really good. There’s a nice diversity of products and I’ve picked up lots of ideas.”

- David Wright from Daisies in the Park, Pinner said: ‘We’re opening a new café in a couple of months so Café+ was great for us. There were some good exhibitors and it was good to meet with suppliers face to face.”

- Ian Liversidge of Brue Valley Farms, a Foodex visitor said: “We came to look at the machinery. We picked up lots of information about food hygiene plus we talked to people about potential business.”

- William Maull of The Plough Inn, Mancetter said: “We visited the shows to pick up some fresh ideas for our pub and restaurant and we left with loads of things to talk about.”

Exhibitors too were delighted with the shows and many have rebooked for next time.

- Paul Jordon, managing director of E Jordon Refrigeration, was very pleased with how CRS went. “It’s always worth exhibiting at CRS because you meet up with your existing customers and meet potential new ones. We were very busy this year with loads of interest in our range. We’re so pleased with how things went that we’ve already re-booked for 2011.”

- Ranjeeva De Silva, head of operations, The London Tea Company, said “Great show, bulk of people from cafes and independents.  Much busier than Hotelympia, tonnes of people here!”

- Claire Martinsen, director, Breckland Orchard, said, “It’s our first time at Food & Drink Expo and the show has exceeded all our expectations.  The quality and quantity of the buyers has been fantastic and we have been kept busy.  We will defiantly be back in 2012.”

The Convenience Retailing Show, Café+, IFFE and the Off Licence show will take place again in 2011 – at the Birmingham NEC from Sunday February 27 to Tuesday March 1, 2011. The other shows return to the NEC in 2012.
